Trump's second coming, voting against own interests, and Apartheid Studies

Trump's second coming is shocking only to those who have not been paying careful attention. The picture being painted to explain his return to power, of people voting against their own best self interests, is illogical and false. The Apartheid Studies framework (ASf) offers a rigorous explanation: firstly, that we live in a world where apartheid is the ruling paradigm; secondly, that most people live in harm's way, leading to a singular dehumanising outcome that I call "demotion"; and, thirdly, that the experience of oppression is uneven. The third explanation is the most salient in this case. From Gaza to Haiti, Congo to Khayelitsha, Brazil to the Bronx, it means that the cost of oppression is always billed and invoiced on the oppressed themselves.
