Samba soul in the heart of Rio de Janeiro... Cidade Maravilhosa 🤩

I have been invited to present a public lecture at the International Meeting of Human Rights, Constitutionalism and Public Policy: Transnational Perspectives, organized by the Graduate Program in Law at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), Brazil. My presentation, on December 3 2025, is titled: Mapping South Africa's 10th Province and Brazil 27th estado in the Apartheid Studies Framework. So, South Africa officially has 9 provinces. Brazil has 26 states (estados). My argument is that there is a 10th unseen province in South Africa and a 27th unseen estado in Brazil. It is these "unseen jurisdictions" that explain, for instance, the stark side-by-sideness of Rio's South Zone with the favelas and the side-by-sideness of Alexandra and Sandton or Imizamo Yethu and Hout Bay, and so on
